The hide is situated in Arctic Norway – Varanger – Vadsø Harbor. This hide is driven by an electrical engine, charged by solar-cells. We do drive to the birds, instead of spending time waiting for them to come to us. The birds can not see the persons inside of the boat. The hide is primary ment for the purpose to come close to the Steller's Eider`s in Vadsø Harbor.

Normal range between the boat and the birds: From 1 to 10/12 meters. Using the boat is making it possible to study the birds and take pictures while the birds is doing their normal activities, without disturbing them to much. It is essential to know that during a boat-trip, the birds/different flocks and species do have different behavior from day to day. Some groups/birds is easy to scare, some is very cooperativ. Primary goal: Steller's Eider, King Eider, Common Eider and Long Tailed Ducks.

So far, we do have best results in getting close to the Steller's Eiders and King Eider.

King Eider up to ca. 1. April.

20.th January 2014: News: The floating hide was put on water the 18th of January.  We have mounted stabilisators on both sides,  that increases the stability a great deal. Furthermore, the stabilisators increases the possibilities for taking flight-photos, since photographers can stand up and take pictures from the upper hatches almost at any time while driving around in the harbor.

Below 4 pictures from 18th of January.

Due to low noise, no pollution and the fact that this is driven by solar-power, this is after our opinion a good solution for the environment.

All the pictures presented on this site, is taken from the hide. Click on the pictures if you want a closer look.
